On Tuesday, 12/27/2011, starting at 9:00 PM, SDSC will begin a filesystem migration to ZFS on the core NFS server. During this migration and final rsync all NFS services will need to be stopped. The process is expected to be completed by 9:00am on Wednesday, 12/28/2011. Event status will be provided on http://status.sdsc.edu and a notification will be sent when the maintenance has been completed.
We highly recommendation that all users log off all SDSC systems completely before leaving for the year-end holiday break to protect against data loss during this migration.
During this 12 hour maintenance window MANY services will be unavailable, including:
-All reference unix systems and other NFS dependent systems
-Commvault backup services
-ExternSMB and internal SMB (Samba) services
-SAM-QFS, SAM-QFS NFS, and SRB storage services
-Web Services: Websites served from the SDSC Webfarm will be unavailable.
-Most MySQL databases, all MySQL clients on unix systems
-Most Oracle databases, all Oracle clients on unix systems
-Unix VM Hosts: All Solaris Zones (XEN) and Linux VM guests.
-SDSC UNIX system Cron jobs
-Email: Users will experience a delay in delivery to @sdsc.edu recipients, however all mail will be queued and delivered as soon as possible. SDSC IMAP and POP services will be unavailable, however outgoing mail relay via smtp.sdsc.edu and relay.sdsc.edu will be available. UCSD Exchange users will be unaffected.
The following services will continue normally:
SDSC Cloud storage
SDSC Project Storage
DHCP
DNS
FlexLm
Kerberos
NFS service from Luray for VMWare clients
NTP
SecurID
outgoing mail relay via smtp.sdsc.edu and relay.sdsc.edu
