SUBJECT: UPDATE OF POWER OUTAGE – POWER RESTORATION
Power to the UCSD campus was disrupted around noon on 5/26/12. The cause of the disruption was a transformer, which caught fire at the east campus power station. The switching equipment in the station was severely damaged.
Repair crews were able to re-energize the system starting at 01:30 a.m. on 05/27/12, and campus loss and recovery assessment is ongoing.
Should you discover your power has not been restored or have a power related issue, please contact Facilities Maintenance at x42930 or Housing Customer Service Center at x42600 (housing areas). Should you have animal related emergencies contact Emergency Veterinary Services x46064.
UCSD employees should report to work as normally scheduled and no changes to class schedules are anticipated.
UPDATE: Power Restored to Center, May 27th, 2012 at 1:30AM
Power to the center has been restored and stable for 30 minutes. You can now begin to bring your systems up at your discretion. We will send out updates of service restoration and event summary as they become available. If you are experiencing any connectivity or other issues please contact SDSC Operations at operations@sdsc.edu or 858-534-5090. SDSC Operations staff are available 24/7 to assist you.

SUBJECT: UPDATE OF POWER OUTAGE – 5/27/12 @ 12:15 a.m.

- Power to the UCSD campus was disrupted around noon on 5/26/12. The ongoing outage impacts the entire UCSD campus, including SIO.
- The cause of the disruption was a transformer, which caught fire at the east campus power station.
- Given the extreme level of damage to the switching equipment, which has been discovered as crews are making repairs, the revised estimate to power restoration is: 05/27/12 between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m..
- Please refrain from calling UCSD Police or Physical Plant regarding the outage unless you have a situation which requires immediate attention.

SUBJECT: UPDATE OF POWER OUTAGE – 5/26/12 @ 7 p.m.
Power to the UCSD campus was disrupted around noon today. The outage impacts the entire UCSD campus, including SIO.
The cause of the disruption was a transformer, which caught fire at the east campus power station. The fire was extinguished and crews are working on restoring power.
Due to additional damage discovered after the fire, the revised estimate to power restoration is: 05/26/12 between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Please refrain from calling UCSD Police or Physical Plant regarding the outage unless you have a situation which requires immediate attention.

We just spoke with Campus Facilities, at this time they are extending the out outage for at least 2 more hours before the next notice.

NAP Update: We have been able to bring the temperature down in the NAP, we are not going to take it offline at this time. We will stay onsite and notify to this site if anything changes.

Triton Alert states: Power not expected to be restored for at least 4 hours. UCSD
Police Department states: The cause of the disruption appears to be a transformer, which caught fire at the east campus power station. The fire was extinguished and crews are working on restoring power.

Campus States:
There are problems at the 69kv Substation. Appropriate personnel are on site. No ETR at this time.
UPDATE: 12:21 PM
At this time all UPS systems have discharged. The only systems remaining online at SDSC are core networking and generator backed systems. We will provide an update as soon as we can.
All,
Campus has suffered a power outage that impacts SDSC. The Generator and UPS systems have kicked in and are running at this time. We have no current update on the expected outage timeline at this time. We will pass along as soon as we have more information. We will send updated information once we have it and will also be updating this site.
